CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ORGANIC INHIBITOR FOR THE ACID ETCHING (DESCALING, DERUSTING OR PICKLING) OF CARBON STEELS.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND PROPERTIES.

The inhibitor for the acid etching of carbon steels is the water-based organic liquid of dark brown color with density 1.2-1.3 g/ml , incombustible, explosion-proof, low-toxic and not corrosive for steels. It is not volatile, not causing irritation of skin and respiratory organs, does not require the special conditions for transportation and storage.

ETCHING (PICKLING OR DESCALING) BATH COMPOSITION.

The composition of etching bath is allowed from 25% of sulfuric acid and 0% iron sulfate, to 5% of sulfuric acid and 20% iron sulfate in all proportions in the water. If it is necessary, the addition of foaming agents is possible. Descaling organic inhibitor can be used to the complete exhaustion of acid solution. The periodic correction of etching bath composition can be allowed by addition of inhibitor portions in amounts of 50% from the initial concentration (usually simultaneously with correction on the acid).

TRADEMARKS OF STEELS FOR ETCHING (PICKLING AND DERUSTING).

All trademarks of high-carbon and low-carbon steels of any type of rolling can be etched (for example, the steels: 1kp-3kp, 08U, 10, 20, 30, 50, 60, 70, 80 in the Russian national standards classification).

THE OPERATING ETCHING TEMPERATURE.

It is from +10 to +100 C deg.

OPERATING CONDITIONS FOR ETCHING.

Any descaling conditions will do, if the duration of pickling and derusting is more than 3 minutes. The organic inhibitor does not prevent the etching rate of rolling scale.

THE INHIBITOR WORKING CONCENTRATION.

Working solution concentration for inhibitor is 1.5-2.0 g/l. Under these conditions, the inhibitor is completely soluble, chemically stable and shows long-time protective action.

THE METAL PROTECTION DEGREE.

The metal protection degree is about 95-98 % , depending on the trademark of steel.

SAVINGS OF ACID CONSUMPTION.

The acid consumption is decreased from 1.5 to 2.0 times, depending on the etching conditions. It is resulted from the inhibition effects on the iron dissolution and hydrogen evolution processes on the metal surface, which are caused by addition of inhibitor.

SMELL.

It is minimum, even over the open pickling bath during the operative exhaust ventilation.

PRICE.

Price is 35.4 roubles/kg (0.99 EUR/kg, payment in roubles for the rate of CBR exchange), including the added value tax (the steel container or tank is supplied by Customer).

BATCH VOLUME.

INDUSTRIAL TESTS.

The inhibitor for the acid etching of carbon steels is the newest Russian scientific and technical elaboration. It was successfully got through the repeated experimental and industrial tests in 1996-2004 years, demonstrated the universal properties, strong protective action and the increased chemical stability in the solutions of sulfuric acid. AVERAGE WORKING CONSUMPTION.

The inhibitor average consumption during the descaling or derusting (in calculation per 1 ton of the pickled metal) is about 110-140 gram/ton. The mean working consumption of pure acid during the etching process with inhibitor is about 8-11 kg/t for the wire made of low-carbon steels, and 5-7 kg/t for the wire made of high-carbon steels. It is substantially lower than analogous indices under the same working conditions for the well-known Russian inhibitors S-5U and I-2V.

ECONOMIC EFFECTIVENESS.

According to economic effectiveness and ecological safety, the inhibitor exceeds its analogs. Commercial tests showed that every 1 rouble of investments, which were depositted in the organic inhibitor, provided for any metallurgical enterprise during one half a year approximately 20 roubles in additional profit due to the reduction of the metal losses and the consumption of acid solution. Additionally, side-line production and utilization expenditures were reduced.
